The original of this beautiful peacock brooch dates from the 11th century and was found at Toftegård near Vindinge Herred in Denmark. A similar brooch was also found in
Trondheim, Norway. Two peacock males were found in the Gokstad ship and it is the oldest found of peacocks in northern Europe. The peacock, which is both exotic and foreign, had high status among the Viking age elite.
The Viking brooch is handmade of high quality silver plated bronze.
